From Man to Zone
game tactic: I started, in
1986, my professional football career playing in FC Modena and I have
experienced the incredible transformation of football from the '80s to
nowadays, from at Man to Zone game strategy and tactis. |

Mixed Zone startegy:
Until the beginning of the early eighties most of teams used to play “mixed
zone”, while before they were used to play at “Man”. |

Zone tactics: Marking at
“Man” now belongs to the history of football. The coach, after reviewing
each opponent’s features, gives precise orders to players with specific
commitments to control, all the time, an opponent’s player. |

The Zone Strategy:
In fact, the 1991, I was one of the Mr. Arrigo Sacchi’s revolutionary Milan
player, he was among the first coach to set a “play-zone”
team for football soccer strategy. Playing at “Zone”
means to occupy its own “Zone” (area) of
the field, according to the equitable distribution of players and team
strategy. |

Player tactical responsabilities: Each player is responsible for its own area of competence, both horizontally and vertically, to the edge of the area defended by the companion. Personally I believe that, compared to the marking-to-Man playing way, in the “Zone” strategy the players are more involved, because they are less depending on the opposing player... |

Pressing strategy: The workload is shared more evenly among the players and the distances between each line are shortened, with the advantage that you can perform more effectively pressing actions, attacking actions and passes between the players. Against the “Zone” football strategy sometimes may be disadvantageous, because there could be a slower progress during the ball possession phase and playing in the same “Zones” it could lose its imagination (fantasy) and unpredictability. |

Gian Domenico Costi, was born in 1969 and starts playing soccer in the youth team of Modena FC (Emilia Romagna). When was seventeen years old, during 1986, has been launched to the Modena's professional team playing in Serie C1 and they the Italian Championship, then Gian Domenico Costi has played with Modena FC in Serie B while the season 1990-91 was contracted to be a player of the Dream A team of AC Milan winning a the UEFA European Super Cup (now Champions League) and the FIFA Intercontainental Cup, with the famous coach Arrigo Sacchi and playing with Sebastiano Rossi Paolo Maldini, Galli, Carobbi, Tassotti, Bandirali, Gian Domenico Costi, Franco Baresi, Costacurta, Corti, Nava, Evani, Stroppa, Gaudenzi, Dil Ruud Gullit, Salvatori, Demetrio Albertini, Franklin Edmundo Rijkaard, Roberto Donadoni, Carlo Ancelotti, Daniele Massaro, Agostini, Marco Simone, Marco Van Basten and Costantino Borneo...
